Dr Graham Howells (OM55-62)
Dr Howells, 67, died on Saturday evening after his white Ford Transit camper van was in a collision with a white BMW at around 7.05pm on the northbound carriageway of the A449, near the Usk intersection.

A tribute released by Dr Howells’ family yesterday described him as a “loving father” who had recently retired from a position as professor of English at the University of Brasilia. They said the father of three had started his teaching career at Atlantic College, St Donats, and went on to lecture at Cardiff and Swansea Universities.

Although originally from Monmouth, Dr Howells’ family said he travelled extensively, had worked in a number of countries and was looking forward to dividing his time between Monmouth and Brazil.

Dr Howells is survived in Brazil by his long-term partner. He was described as a “loving father” to his three children, Sara, and twins Graham and Martha, and a “devoted and proud grandfather” to four grandchildren.
