Memorial Service

In March, more than 200 Old Monmothians and former staff gathered for a memorial service to celebrate the life and career of Peter Anthony, a much-loved former Acting Headmaster, Second Master and teacher at Monmouth School for Boys.

Mr Anthony died, aged 78, on 27th December 2021. He, joined Monmouth in 1968 to teach History, and shone in his role as Master in Charge of Cricket, as a rugby coach and as a Housemaster.

The service commenced with a welcome by the Schools' Chaplain, Reverend Clifford Swartz and Chris Anthony and was led by former school Chaplain, Prebendary Norman Morris.

Tributes were given by former Headmaster Rupert Lane, President of the Old Monmothian Club, Steve Raikes, and by Old Monmothians David Hitchcock OBE and Dr David Watkins. The final prayer and blessing came from OM and current Master of The Haberdashers' Company, Reverend James Power.

The service was followed by a buffet lunch in The Hitchcock Pavilion, which gave a further opportunity for guests to exchange memories of Peter.
