Old Monmothian Honoured with OBE for Archaeology and Heritage
Dr Paul Roberts, head of antiques at Oxford’s Ashmolean Museum, has been awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours list for his services to archaeology and heritage.
A former Monmouth School pupil from the 1970s, Dr Roberts grew up in Ross-on-Wye and has excavated sites in Britain, Greece, Libya, Turkey, and Italy, where he directed digs near Rome and Campobasso.

Dr Roberts, who studied at Oxford and Cambridge, focuses his research on the everyday lives of ordinary people in the Roman world. His long career has seen the publication of four books and major exhibitions at the British Museum.
